Nicole Kidman Opens Up About Divorce and Provocative Roles in Candid Interview

Nicole Kidman has shared an unfiltered confession about her personal and professional life in a new interview with Vogue, just over a week after filing for divorce from Keith Urban. The 58-year-old actress discussed her history of provocative on-screen roles and reflected on how the industry has evolved for women.

Kidman, who has starred in films such as Dead Calm, To Die For, Eyes Wide Shut, and the recent Babygirl, said she is drawn to roles she 'can't even mentally grab'. She explained that taking risks has always been part of her approach, adding, 'You get back up and you try again and you learn.'

When asked about her split from Urban, Kidman mused, 'How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going and then it isn't going in that direction?' She emphasised the importance of avoiding online hate, stating, 'Literally walk away from it. Because it will fell you. It will destroy you.'

The Oscar winner also spoke about her role in Babygirl, where she plays a CEO and mother having an affair with a younger staffer. She described it as 'really beautiful' to portray an older woman exploring her sensuality, noting that many women 'are discarded at a certain period of their career'. Kidman said her character's journey is 'really relatable'.

Kidman and Urban split in 2025 after 19 years of marriage. In divorce papers, Kidman requested primary residential parent status, seeking to care for their two daughters 306 days a year compared to Urban's 59. The couple married in 2006 and have two children, Sunday and Faith.
