Niall Horan Rewrites Song After Liam Payne's Death

Former One Direction star Niall Horan has revealed that he felt compelled to rewrite one of his songs following the death of his former bandmate Liam Payne. Payne died aged 31 in 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Horan explained that the track 'End Of An Era' was originally about moving on and looking forward, but after Payne's passing, he and songwriters John Ryan and Julian Bunetta felt the need to revisit it. 'We wrote End Of An Era about four times, because originally the song to me meant, 'all right, we're moving on',' Horan said.

The 32-year-old Irish singer described the emotional process of rewriting the song, which is reportedly about Payne. 'John and Julian lived next door to Liam for a long time, and we all grew up together. For the three of us, it was actually quite a crazy experience to have to write a song like that, because you don't ever expect to,' he added.

Horan also spoke about his pride in watching his former bandmates—Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson—perform as solo artists. 'You feel a sense of pride watching the boys doing what they love to do and the communities that they're able to create,' he said.
