Model CeCe Rose has called on NASA to send her to the Moon as Earth's ambassador, claiming she is the ideal representative for humanity. The 26-year-old, once labelled the "perfect girlfriend", says she would accept the mission despite preferring to stay on the ground.
Doubts over Apollo landings
Rose, who has over two million Instagram followers, says she has questioned the Apollo Moon landings for years and is not convinced they happened. "I don't believe we've ever actually landed on the moon," she said. "I don't think it's impossible to get there. I just don't think a successful landing has happened yet."
Working in entertainment has reinforced her doubts. "Honestly, this is something I've always been sceptical about, like a lot of people are," she explained. "But especially after being in the industry I'm in and seeing how advanced theatre production is, the evidence is outstanding that it's extremely possible the first ever 'moon landing' was just a movie set."
Open to evidence
Rose believes people are too quick to dismiss sceptics. "I think a lot of people trust the news blindly, so for anyone to question it seems abnormal," she said. "I'm sure more people disagree with what they see in the mainstream - they just don't say it out loud."
She insists she is open-minded and would change her view with convincing proof. "If NASA announced another successful moon landing tomorrow, I'd still need convincing," she said. "I'm not sure exactly what proof I would need. But I'm not just going to see one statement about it and say, 'Okay, it's happened now'."
However, she would jump at the chance to see for herself. "I would absolutely accept," she said. "At the end of the day, I'm a genuinely curious person, so I'd love to see it all."
Online reactions
Her comments have divided opinion online, with critics trying to change her mind. "It's been all over the place," she said. "Some people agree with me and some have made it their life mission to tag me in everything moon related. Especially on TikTok. If there's someone talking about the moon landing, I get tagged in the comments straight away."
Some reactions stand out. "People even message me about it," she laughed. "I think the funniest one was someone yelling at me saying he couldn't believe I'd said that because he'd been there last week. I kept trying to work out if he meant he'd been to the moon last week, but he just kept repeating that he'd 'gone last week.'"
Continuing to question
Despite criticism, Rose says she will keep questioning official narratives. "At the end of the day, it's better to question something you're not sure of than blindly believe someone else's truth," she said. "I'd rather look like a complete idiot asking 30 stupid questions than blindly accept someone else's truth while I'm still confused or unsure."
Rose previously made headlines after parents reportedly offered to fly her around the world to date their sons after she was labelled the "perfect girlfriend". She believes the story resonated because modern dating is hard. "I think it resonated with a lot of people because dating in society is hard," she said. "Parents probably read it thinking, 'How can I get her for my son?' Men probably read it thinking, 'What should my standards be?' And other women probably wanted to see what was so different about me - whether from jealousy or to learn something."
