Milly Alcock admits fear of career slump after House of the Dragon

Milly Alcock has revealed she feared her career was over after her breakout role as young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon. The 25-year-old Australian actress struggled to book further acting jobs following Netflix's 2025 series Sirens, leading her to reconsider her decision to avoid major franchise roles.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Alcock admitted: 'I was so s***-scared that my life was over at 22. And, of course, it wasn’t.' She eventually accepted the role of Supergirl in James Gunn's new DC universe, though she was initially reluctant. 'I kind of bullied myself into it,' she said, describing 'crazy dreams' of herself 'at the foot of a tsunami' as she transitioned from TV to superhero blockbusters.

Alcock acknowledged the pressure of playing such an iconic character: 'Of course I’m scared. Of course I want people to like me and the movie. But ultimately, it’s out of my control.' She credited her House of the Dragon experience for preparing her for the scrutiny that comes with the role, noting: 'We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.'

Alcock will also appear in the black comedy Thumb, playing a reclusive woman whose life changes after receiving a severed thumb in the mail. The film features an ensemble cast including Awkwafina, Kate McKinnon, and Sofía Vergara.
