Comedian Michael McIntyre has revealed the extreme method he used to lose 14 pounds in just six days. The star, who has struggled with his weight for years, turned to a clinic in Austria for a drastic weight loss programme.
Speaking on Jessie Ware's Table Manners podcast, McIntyre explained that he visited the Mayr clinic in Austria with his friend Paul Tonkinson in February 2017. There, he consumed only soup and crackers, and drank Epsom salts upon arrival. He described the experience as leaving him feeling 'hollow'.
This is not the first time McIntyre has attempted to lose weight. Previously, he had cut out carbohydrates and alcohol, exercised regularly, and even had healthy meals delivered to his door at a cost of over £60 a day. However, after regaining weight, he opted for the clinic's approach.
McIntyre's weight loss journey was partly motivated by an incident in 2014 when his son's computer app described him as 'slightly overweight'. He recounted on The Graham Norton Show that the app, Akinator the Genie, guessed his identity after he admitted to being overweight.
The NHS warns against crash dieting, recommending a steady weight loss of one to two pounds per week to ensure long-term success and avoid muscle loss.
