Mercedes Blanche, an actress known for her role in Amazon Prime's dark-comedy superhero series The Boys, has revealed she has been celibate for seven years. She says the decision has been "life-changing" and has allowed her to concentrate on her career without distractions.
Why She Chose Celibacy
Blanche, who is based in Los Angeles, explained that she quit sex after becoming fed up with men. "After so many years of seeing the worst of men, I felt pushed to my edge, so I did a 180 and became celibate," she said.
The actress also addressed the misconception that her glamorous image and revealing clothing indicate sexual availability. "People think of me as a highly sexual person because I like to wear revealing clothes and look pretty. They confuse that with my sexual desires, which are the opposite," she stated.
Empowerment and Independence
Blanche says the choice has made her feel more independent and less concerned with others' expectations. She describes herself as "more in control, more empowered," adding, "I can rely on myself 100%."
While she has no immediate plans to end her celibacy, she hasn't sworn off sex forever. "I will have sex again, just not anytime soon. I don't have any plans to," she said. "If I meet somebody and it feels right, I'm not against it. It would have to be somebody who respects me and doesn't make assumptions about me because of how I look or what I post online."
Looking Ahead
Blanche also wants to showcase more of her acting abilities. In a previous interview, she expressed a desire to do stunts and shave her head, saying, "I want to show more of myself than just the looks... I would love to showcase everything I can do as an actor."
She maintains that a sexy image and personal boundaries can coexist. "I know I'm hot, I love looking sexy and I'm never going to apologise for that. But what you see on Instagram isn't an invitation into my bedroom," she concluded.
