Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly has said she helped arrange a private meeting between far-right activist Candace Owens and Erika Kirk, the widow of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Kelly described the summit, which lasted over four hours, as an attempt to foster a 'detente' between the two women.
Speaking on her SiriusXM show on Tuesday, Kelly revealed she had been working behind the scenes to bring them together. 'Many of my viewers have been wondering why I haven’t said anything given my previous statements about Erika, and the reason is that I have been working behind the scenes to try to foster a detente between them,' she said.
Owens has been promoting conspiracy theories about Charlie Kirk's death, including suggestions of involvement by the Israeli government and senior TPUSA officials. Despite the meeting, Owens said she did not recant her suspicions and continued to denounce evidence used by law enforcement.
Kelly said Erika Kirk had contacted her weeks ago to ask if she would facilitate a meeting. Kelly then reached out to Owens, who agreed. 'And the two of them took it from there, trying to negotiate the specifics of what they both would be comfortable with,' Kelly added.
Owens confirmed Kelly's role, telling the New York Post: 'Megyn has been fantastic behind the scenes.' Kelly also lashed out at critics who accused her of supporting a conspiracy theorist, saying: 'You have no f***ing clue what’s going on.'
