Meghan Markle Warned Ahead of UK Return

Meghan Markle has been issued a blunt three-word warning by a PR expert ahead of her return to the United Kingdom next week. The Duchess of Sussex is set to join her husband, Prince Harry, on a five-day trip to Britain to mark the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham. The event, founded by Harry in 2014, is widely regarded as his life's passion project.

Security Concerns and Family Safety

The Sussexes are currently navigating the safest way to bring their family to the UK amid an ongoing security battle with the Home Office. Since stepping down as senior royals six years ago, Harry and Meghan have received downgraded security and no armed police protection while in the country. The couple have been vocal about their concerns, particularly regarding the safety of their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

Meghan's Role in the Visit

While Meghan's schedule in the UK has not been confirmed, she is expected to accompany Harry on visits to the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London and an Invictus event at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. It remains unclear whether she will engage in any activities related to her brand, As Ever, as she did during the couple's trip to Australia in April.

However, PR expert Renae Smith, founder of the branding agency The Atticism, has warned the Duchess to avoid self-promotion during this trip. Speaking to the Daily Express, Smith emphasized that the visit is fundamentally about Harry and his work with the Invictus Games.

Expert Advice: 'Let Him Shine'

Smith stated: 'Unlike some of their previous appearances, this trip isn’t at all about Meghan. It’s about Harry, Invictus, and the work he’s spent years building.' She advised Meghan: 'This is Harry’s event and Harry’s legacy. Let him shine.'

From a PR perspective, Smith noted that supporting Harry quietly would be one of the smartest moves Meghan could make. 'The only thing I would caution against is forgetting whose stage this is. Invictus belongs to Harry. The veterans belong to Harry. This isn’t the moment for lifestyle branding, personal messaging or creating viral moments. It’s the moment to be a supportive partner. If she does that, I’d consider the trip a PR success,' she added.

Background on the Invictus Games

The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry in 2014, is an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women. The Birmingham Games, scheduled for 2027, will mark the 10th anniversary of the event. Harry has been actively involved in promoting the Games and supporting the veteran community.
