Meghan Markle TV role rejected by 99% of Brits in poll

The Duchess of Sussex has been dealt a significant setback as a new poll reveals that 99% of British respondents do not wish to see her on UK television programmes.

Last week, Meghan Markle confirmed she will co-host Junior MasterChef Australia. The series is scheduled to be filmed next year in Melbourne, Australia. This new role follows her appearance as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia earlier this year.

Poll Results Show Overwhelming Opposition

While the Duchess is reportedly excited about her new position, the British public appears less enthusiastic. A Daily Express poll, which opened just after midday on November 1 and closed at 4.20 pm on November 2, asked readers: “Would you like to see Meghan Markle on UK TV shows?” The results showed that 99% of voters said no, with only 1% voting yes.

Several readers shared their views in the comments section. One reader wrote: “My TV gets switched off if she appears.” Another commented: “We don't want her on Australian TV either.” A further comment read: “Who wants to see her on TV?” Another person added: “Ha Ha Ha we would all change channel.”

Mixed Reactions to New Role

Despite the critical response to her potential UK television appearances, many are excited about the Duchess's upcoming hosting role, particularly given her known passion for cooking. One fan wrote on X following the announcement: “Congratulations, Meghan! Can't wait to see you back in your element!” Another supporter said: “So happy to hear this.” A third wrote: “THIS IS THE BEST NEWS!!!”

Meghan is expected to travel to Australia next year for filming, which is set to take place over several weeks. It remains unclear whether her husband, Prince Harry, and their children will accompany her.

Family's Return to the UK

The news comes just months after the family relocated from the US back to the UK, where they are now living outside of London. The move surprised many, as Harry and Meghan had originally stepped away from royal duty and left the UK in 2020.

Despite returning to British soil, the couple are not working royals and are unlikely to resume royal duties. King Charles made this clear in a letter to government departments, stating that they should be treated as private citizens.
