Meghan Markle Criticised Over Metal Spoon in Honey Launch

Meghan Markle's lifestyle brand As Ever introduced its fourth honey variety, lavender honey, on Tuesday evening, joining wildflower, sage, and orange blossom. The announcement came via an Instagram post showing two jars of honey and a close-up of a jar with a metal spoon dripping honey.

Fans Question Beekeeping Credentials

Some royal fans expressed disappointment over the use of a metal spoon in the imagery. One user commented: "Meghan Markle is not the beekeeper that she pretends to be. Honey is acidic and full of delicate enzymes. Using metal spoons can trigger reactivity and degrade beneficial enzymes - ruining the honey’s natural goodness and flavour. Beekeepers know to use wood or bamboo!"

Another added: "Through and through. Her whole life is built on image. Very obvious now. It’s an empty image." A third wrote: "She is not anything that she pretends to be; everything is an act." Another user simply said: "Fake, as ever."

Defenders and Expert Opinion

However, others defended the duchess, arguing that brief contact with metal does not harm honey. One user noted: "I thought that too, but apparently there's not much chance of damage during the scant time that spoon and honey are in contact." Another said: "Well I'd use a spoon to get the honey out of the jar."

According to beekeeping experts, using a metal spoon does not ruin honey because the contact time is too short to cause significant reaction or oxidation.

New Product Details

The post also announced that a new batch of single jars of orange blossom honey, previously available only in a duo, is now sold separately. As Ever's caption read: "Introducing our newest Lavender Honey, a floral gift of summer with a delicate warmth that lingers beautifully. Our well-loved Orange Blossom Honey is also now available solo, with bright notes and a golden finish."
