Meghan Markle's fans have criticised the reaction to Harriet Phillips's recent interview, arguing that the Duchess of Sussex would not have received the same treatment. Harriet, who married Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips in June, spoke to HELLO! magazine about her charity work and her new life with Peter.
The interview was published during King Charles and Queen Camilla's Caribbean tour, and its positive reception has sparked complaints from Sussex supporters. Meghan, 45, and Prince Harry, 42, have previously faced criticism over their own interviews.
Fans Point to Double Standards
On X, one fan wrote: "I PROMISE you if Meghan Sussex did a SIXTEEN PAGE spread in ANY magazine and ONLY spoke about her charity work like Mrs Phillips, Richard, the rest of the British Press, and her haters alike would have had SO MUCH to say. Let's stop pretending that Meghan gets equal treatment."
A second user questioned why Harriet had not been criticised, writing: "I think people are questioning, quite rightly, why Harriet isn't being criticised for it." Another added: "Nonsense, I think it's a bit of a reach to dedicate a 16-page story to her but I do find it hypocritical that has Meghan done this during the King's visit, you'd all be going mental but then Harriet isn't the biracial royal."
Interview Highlights
Daily Mail's Richard Eden defended the interview, saying: "No one is remotely bothered about the interview. Not only are the couple low-key, but it's a very positive article, focusing on her charity work."
Harriet told HELLO! that she met Peter shortly after her father's death: "My father had died just before I met Peter. I often think maybe that's why Peter came along." She described her upbringing as "pretty idyllic, growing up as one of four siblings in the countryside" and called Peter her "best friend", adding that they were "meant to be together".
Peter and Harriet announced their engagement in August 2025 and married ten months later. Peter's first wife, Autumn Kelly, is the mother of his two teenage daughters, Savannah and Isla.
