Megan McKenna moved to Germany after machete break-in terror

Reality TV star Megan McKenna has revealed she moved to Germany full-time after machete-wielding intruders left her terrified to be in her own home. The former The Only Way Is Essex star, 33, said the incident, which happened two years ago, left her scared to live in England by herself while her husband, football player Oliver Burke, is based in Germany.

Incident details

Speaking on the Great Company With Jamie Laing podcast, Megan said: "I don’t talk about this with a lot of people because I was worried and scared at the time because people were in prison for it, and when there was a trial going on, so I wasn’t able to talk about it." She added: "I was robbed really badly in my own home. It scared me so much to be in the UK and to live in the UK on my own, because obviously Ollie’s in Germany."

The terrifying incident happened shortly after the couple’s honeymoon in Montenegro. Megan explained her husband had to travel back to Germany the day after they landed in the UK, leaving her alone in their house. She fell asleep around 11pm and woke to find the house "shaking". She said: "I was such a disoriented mess. I was like, ‘What?’ And then I just knew that it was happening to me, and I was like, ‘Oh my God’."

Attack on her home

Megan described the intruders as "three masked men with machetes and baseball bats" who hacked a hole in her wall. She said: "They’re three masked men with machetes and baseball bats, and they managed to hack a hole in my wall because it was a fake wall going onto my dressing room, linked to my bedroom."

She quickly phoned the police, but fearing for her dog's life, she approached one of the men, who took her jewellery. She also cut her foot, leaving "blood everywhere". Megan, who said going through such a terrifying experience "changes you forever", added: "I was like, ‘I’m not safe in my own home.’ The police were amazing at the time, but I was then going through IVF to have [her son] Landon, and they wanted me to go on trial."

Aftermath

Megan, who rose to fame on Ex On The Beach and welcomed her son Landon with Burke in October 2024, said the intruders got caught and went on trial, but were released a year later. She said: "They’re just roaming the roads."
