A stuntman's actions during My Chemical Romance's Long Live The Black Parade show at Liverpool FC's Anfield stadium left some fans fearing the worst on Tuesday evening (June 30). The American rockers, fronted by Gerard Way, kicked off the UK and Europe leg of their tour by marking the 20th anniversary of their third album, which spawned hits including Welcome to the Black Parade and I Don't Love You.
Stunt Causes Alarm
The Black Parade is a concept album centred on the story of a man known as 'The Patient' suffering from terminal cancer. During the track Famous Last Words, a stunt known as The Man On Fire saw a man run across the stage fully engulfed in flames. One fan exclaimed in a TikTok video: "Went to see My Chemical Romance, ended up in a real life Casualty episode." They added: "How do you end up in that job?"
Another person reacted in shock: "Wait what happened? Did he survive?" A second responded to a similar clip: "This is truly the most insane thing they have done this tour. A whole stuntman? One of the more dangerous stunts you can do?" A third shared: "I hadn't found a single thing about this when I saw a single shot and no context and wasn't sure since if that was a stunt that actually happened or Photoshop. Thank you for sharing so I know it's real." A fourth TikTok user claimed: "I feel like if something actually went wrong during one of these shows we would never know."
Stunt Explained
Someone else cleared up the act, however: "Fire suit and fire gel, common stunt nowadays. Great for entertainment and the way he was ignored as he ran by was hilarious for a sell." The band themselves did not comment on the stunt during the show.
Band Thanks Liverpool
As the show came to an end, the band took a moment to thank the city and everyone involved in the tour. Addressing the Anfield crowd, they said: "We're extremely lucky to play with the Bunnymen. Tonight has been an extra fun night, Liverpool. We want to thank our cast and crew of Long Live."
Upcoming Tour Dates
The tour will now head to Glasgow's Bellahouston Park (July 4), London's Wembley Stadium (July 8, 10, 11), Florence's Visarno Arena (July 15), and Madrid's Iberdrola Music (July 18). The American tour will then get underway, before the band move on to their Asian tour dates, which end on November 22 at Jakarta International Stadium in Indonesia.
