Matt Damon has called his longtime friend Ben Affleck one of the great loves of his life, describing their decades-long bond as unshakeable. The childhood pals from Cambridge, Massachusetts, have remained close through Affleck's marriages and careers, with Damon declaring their relationship one of the most significant of his life.
Damon Praises Affleck's Looks and Friendship
Speaking about his Oscar-winning co-star, Damon said: "We've been through a whole hell of a lot together, and he's one of the great loves of my life, I will say about Ben." He also commented on a photo of Affleck, joking: "Look at that dashing picture of him. He's really giving Blue Steel in that one," referencing the iconic pose from the film Zoolander.
Affleck Hails Damon's Performance in The Odyssey
Affleck returned the admiration after watching Damon's latest film, The Odyssey. Damon revealed: "I got a phone call from him that I think I've been waiting 45 years to get. He didn't stop talking for an hour. It was like he'd seen the movie 20 times. He got absolutely everything. Every detail. He somehow soaked it all in in one viewing."
Fatherhood Brings New Phase of Life
The pair, who co-founded production company Artists Equity in 2022, have grown closer as fathers. Both have children approaching adulthood, with Damon noting: "We're at very similar stages with the kids, and it's definitely a new phase of life. It doesn't take much to get us emotional at this point."
Damon, a father of four daughters, added: "I feel like we are facing it and embracing the fact that it's happening. We've been talking a lot about presence and about really trying to be in the moment, and because you can't slow time down, the only way to really do it is to really be there and be in it."
