Mark Wahlberg's £53m Earnings Highlight Hollywood Gender Pay Gap

New estimates from Forbes magazine have exposed the stark gender pay gap in Hollywood, revealing that the world's top 10 male actors earned nearly three times as much as their female counterparts over the past year.

The highest-paid actors collectively earned $488.5m (£380.5m) between June 2016 and June 2017, compared to $172.5m (£134m) for the top 10 actresses. Mark Wahlberg topped the men's list with $68m (£53m), while Emma Stone was the best-paid woman with $26m (£20m).

Thirteen other men, including Dwayne Johnson, Jackie Chan, and Ryan Gosling, earned more than Stone during the period. Stone recently revealed that some male co-stars have taken pay cuts to ensure parity.

Forbes writer Natalie Robehmed attributed the disparity to the types of roles available, noting that superhero movies and blockbusters dominate release schedules, offering fewer high-paying parts for women. She stated: 'Until there are an equal number of high-paying roles, there will continue to be an inequality in the paychecks of Tinseltown's very richest.'
