Hollywood star Margot Robbie has revealed that the set of The Wolf of Wall Street featured a dedicated "merkin room" – a space stocked with wigs for genitalia. The 36-year-old actress, who played Naomi in the 2013 film, shared the anecdote during an appearance on Australian radio show NovaFM.
Behind the scenes of the nude scene
When asked by presenters whether it was difficult to find actresses with the right body type for her role, Robbie touched upon her nude scene with co-star Leonardo DiCaprio. She explained that producers always had a backup plan, saying: "They have these things called merkins, which is like a wig for genitalia. I remember, for The Wolf Of Wall Street, there was an entire merkin room. I guess people would go in and pick one out. I was fascinated."
Desensitised on set
During the same interview, Robbie discussed her role in Damien Chazelle's Babylon. The Wuthering Heights star said she felt comfortable filming a "debaucherous party" scene due to her previous experience. She claimed she became "desensitised so fast" and described the Martin Scorsese-directed film as feeling "like a lifetime and also a distant, hazy memory."
Unusual nickname from childhood
Robbie also revealed that her friends call her "Maggot," a nickname that has stuck since she was a young girl. She said: "I think a substitute teacher made a mistake on the roll call and said 'maggot,' and everyone laughed. You can't pick a nickname, you get given it." She added that she has been called Maggot "since she was six" and previously hoped the moniker wouldn't stick, but "here we are" discussing it decades later.
Upcoming role as George Clooney's mother
In April, it was reported that Robbie is set to play George Clooney's mother, despite being 20 years his junior. She has joined the cast of the upcoming Ocean's 11 prequel. The film will not centre on Clooney's character Danny Ocean, but instead on the "naughty parents" who set him on the path to safe-cracking. Rather than a Vegas casino heist, the new movie will be a crime caper set at the Monaco Grand Prix.
