MAFS Groom Grayson McIvor Reveals 'Wholesome' Bond with Bisexual Bride Julia Vogl
Married At First Sight participant Grayson McIvor has spoken candidly about the immediate and profound connection he felt with his bride, bisexual partner Julia Vogl, during their televised wedding ceremony. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, the 34-year-old Queensland company director described the experience as 'wholesome', 'effortless' and 'emotionally grounding' from the very first moment they met at the altar.
'A Breath of Fresh Air' Wedding Experience
Grayson expressed that seeing their wedding come to life felt like 'a breath of fresh air', bringing genuine smiles and an atmosphere far exceeding his expectations. 'I was glad it turned out very wholesome. Even more wholesome than I imagined,' he revealed. He emphasized that nothing about the day felt forced or performative, with both families naturally clicking from the outset without any orchestration.
'From the get-go, we clicked,' Grayson stated. 'Nothing was orchestrated. Our families and friends just gravitated towards each other. It was a really good start.' The scale of the wedding particularly stunned him, especially when he learned their ceremony would take place at the iconic Sydney Opera House, adding a layer of grandeur to their unique beginning.
Embracing Julia's Bisexuality Without Concern
One of the episode's standout moments featured Julia opening up about her bisexuality, a revelation that Grayson said never raised any concern for him. He explained his perspective simply: 'I don't see sexuality as a label. I just see the person for who they are.' This attitude allowed him to focus purely on their personal connection, adding 'If there's a connection, you ride the wave and see where it takes you.'
Grayson recalled feeling an immediate sense of safety when he first saw Julia walking toward him at the ceremony. 'When I turned around and saw Jules, I was instantly drawn to her,' he shared. 'She made me feel safe, warm and comfortable. That took the pressure out of the moment and let me enjoy the start of the journey.' This instant comfort helped alleviate the inherent pressures of the Married At First Sight experiment.
Genuine Belief in the Process and Early Challenges
Before joining the show, Grayson had felt something was missing in his life and entered with genuine belief that the process could work. 'I had a lot of faith in it,' he admitted. 'I really immersed myself and gave everything I had.' While his focus remained firmly on his marriage to Julia, he acknowledged not seeing eye to eye with everyone during early group events, particularly fellow groom Chris Nield at the bucks' party.
'We didn't align,' Grayson said of Chris. 'His outlook on relationships and life just didn't set him up for success.' However, he maintained that Chris could still find love with the right match, noting 'He doesn't shy away from his opinions. With the right chemistry, he could build something meaningful.'
Quiet Confidence and Protective Stance
Heading into the first dinner party, Grayson said he and Julia walked in feeling quietly confident as one of the strongest couples. 'We weren't buying into all the other nonsense,' he explained. 'We walked in hand in hand, focused on our relationship.' While preferring to avoid unnecessary drama, Grayson admitted he struggles to stay silent when behavior crosses a line.
'It's hard for me to bite my tongue,' he confessed. 'There are times where I question people and hold them accountable. But I was always protective of my relationship with Julia.' Trailers for later episodes show both Grayson and Julia in tears, which he says reflects how seriously he took the experiment. 'The tears show how committed I was,' he stated. 'Whether they're happy or sad tears, there were definitely a lot of them. We really gave it a good crack.'
Unconcerned About Editing and Defending Intentions
Despite being portrayed as one of the season's early favorites, Grayson said he isn't worried about how he's edited. 'If I was painted as a villain, I'd be confused,' he remarked. 'I know I was there for the right reasons.' He also dismissed any suggestion that Julia was on the show for the wrong reasons, emphasizing 'I didn't focus on her intentions. I focused on what I could bring and asked her to be open to wherever the journey takes us.'
When asked whether viewers should expect him to steal another bride, Grayson laughed and turned the question around. 'The bigger question is whether the other boys should be worried about the girls trying to make an impression on me,' he joked, showcasing the lighthearted confidence that has characterized his approach to the Married At First Sight experience from the beginning.
