Love Island Star Jay Younger Announces Engagement Following Romantic Aspen Proposal
Former Love Island contestant Jay Younger has shared the exciting news of his engagement to his girlfriend after popping the question during a picturesque winter escape to Aspen, Colorado. The 32-year-old reality television personality made the announcement to his followers on Instagram, posting a photograph that prominently featured his fiancée's substantial engagement ring.
A Snowy Celebration and Celebratory Reactions
During their romantic break in the snowy Colorado mountains, Jay and his now-fiancée posed for numerous affectionate photographs. Sharing the joyful engagement update, Jay captioned his Instagram post with a playful remark: 'Turns out Latinas can say yes to Scottish men.' The post quickly garnered congratulations from several of his former Love Island co-stars and other celebrities.
Luca Bish commented, 'Congratulations brother,' while Danice Taylor added a simple, 'Congratulations!' Sheli McCoy, known as Sabre from the BBC's Gladiators, expressed her excitement with, 'Omggggggg! Congrats pal!' ITV presenter Andi Peters humorously noted, 'It's the Irn-Bru she's after! Congratulations.'
From Villa Romance to Real-Life Commitment
Jay Younger had previously made his relationship Instagram official in December 2024. Some observant fans noted a resemblance between his girlfriend and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, whom he briefly dated during his time in the Love Island villa in 2022. Jay originally entered the villa as a bombshell during the show's eighth series, immediately creating drama by taking three different girls on dates.
His villa journey saw him couple up with Ekin-Su, though their connection quickly faded. He then moved on to Paige Thorne, followed by Danica Taylor, and eventually Chyna Mills during the Casa Amor segment. Jay and Chyna were ultimately eliminated from the competition on Day 35 following a public vote. Jay later suggested that producers had significant influence over coupling decisions, which he felt impacted his overall experience in the villa.
Life After Love Island and Behind-the-Scenes Insights
Weeks after departing the villa, Jay returned to his professional career as an investment analyst. He has since shared detailed insights into the reality television process, particularly regarding the experience of being a bombshell contestant. Jay explained that prior to entering the show, bombshells are encouraged to watch episodes like regular viewers to understand villa dynamics, though their viewing is restricted.
'When I went out I had to quarantine for two weeks and in that two weeks, we were allowed to watch up to one [episode] behind what you guys were watching at home,' Jay told Ice36.co.uk. 'I was delayed, but I was allowed to watch all the episodes so I got to know all the contestants in the villa, their names, what they looked like and how they were as a person, so I was able to get a good measure of what it was going to be like before going in.'
Revealing the Reality of Casa Amor and Producer Influence
Having experienced Casa Amor firsthand, Jay revealed that the filming process is less intense than portrayed, with only a few hours of filming each day. When cameras are not rolling, producers separate the boys and girls to ensure no significant moments are missed, and Islanders are prohibited from discussing villa life until filming resumes.
'One day they’ll be filming the girls during the day and then at night they’ll be filming the boys - when they’re on the other villa is off,' Jay explained. 'Typically they’ll separate the boys and the girls when you’re not filming. For example, I was in the original villa with the Casa girls, we would all be separated and we wouldn’t be allowed to talk to each other and then the boys weren’t allowed to talk about villa life, your relationships with other people, you just had to let it be.'
Regarding the dramatic couplings and potential infidelity that characterize Casa Amor, Jay acknowledged producer involvement. 'The producers know that Casa Amor is the highlight of most of the series, it’s where most of the drama happens,' he confessed. 'Ultimately, they just want to make a good TV show, so if there is someone in there who seems to be in a stable couple or relationship, there will be someone in their ear probably saying "I think you should explore and be open minded to getting to know this person," and they can kind of gently push you into maybe exploring a connection where you probably wouldn’t have.'
Reflecting on his own experience, Jay admitted, 'At the start I think I was easily swayed to do certain things, maybe had I been a bit more independent in my thinking, things might have been different but it’s the way I played it and the way I was told to play it. I trusted the process. I don’t have any regrets, but obviously I think everyone could probably play things differently had they known what they know now.'
