Louise Redknapp has opened up about her sons' attitudes towards her singing career, admitting they take 'absolutely no notice' of her. The 51-year-old singer appeared on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch to discuss her Naked Confessions tour, where she shared a rare glimpse into family life with her two sons, Beau, 17, and Charley, 21, whom she shares with ex-husband Jamie Redknapp.
When asked by host Tim Lovejoy how her boys feel about her music, Louise quipped: 'I mean, they take absolutely no notice of me. I am just their mum.' Co-host Simon Rimmer then probed whether they had moved from embarrassment to pride, to which Louise replied: 'Yeah, I think so. So my youngest yesterday, he's in Paris with his girlfriend. [He's] 17. I rang him, like you do as a mum, and he ignored me like he does as my son.'
She recounted a text exchange where her son asked about a holiday while she was about to go on stage, receiving a casual 'Oh, yeah, good luck. Kiss.' Louise added: 'You know, that's about as much support as I get. But no, I think secretly they're sort of proud. I think they just want me to be happy.'
The singer also reflected on the differences between being a star in the 1990s and today, citing the lack of privacy and harsh comments on social media. She admitted she tries not to read online comments, describing it as 'self-harm' that can get the better of you. 'I think it's taken me a long time to get there... I'm just at an age now where I care a lot less what people think,' she said.
