An unearthed Only Fools and Horses script has revealed a Del Boy joke that was cut from the 1996 Christmas special, the most-watched sitcom episode in UK history with 24.3 million viewers. The scripts, auctioned by a former production team member, are expected to fetch £2,000.
Cut Line About Brasso
In the scene, after the Trotter brothers' pocket watch is auctioned at Sotheby's, Del Boy was meant to tell Rodney: "They've cleaned it with a bit of Brasso." The line never aired in the finished version of the episode, which holds the official UK record for the highest-rated sitcom broadcast.
Extra Dialogue for Boycie
The script also includes additional dialogue for car dealer Boycie, played by John Challis. When Rodney visits to buy a Rolls-Royce for Del after the auction, Boycie initially laughs at the request until Rodney shows him the Sotheby's cheque for £6.2 million.
Rodney then remarks: "Six million. We were hoping for more, but the market's a bit depressed." Boycie responds: "Sit down - please," before opening a cocktail cabinet and offering him a drink, to which Rodney replies: "Triffic."
Alternate Ending for Batman and Robin Episode
Additionally, an alternate ending to the "mugger" scene from the Batman and Robin episode has been uncovered. The historical documents, written by the late John Sullivan, contain previously unseen jokes and sequences cut from the 1996 Christmas trilogy before transmission.
