Lorraine Kelly has endorsed Wayne Rooney's blunt assessment of the World Cup 2026 halftime show, calling it 'crap' after the break ran over 27 minutes. The ITV presenter reposted a video of the former England captain's remark on her Instagram Story, simply adding: 'Yep.'
Rooney's unfiltered reaction
BBC pundit Rooney was asked in the studio about the performances that halted the match for nearly half an hour. He replied: 'I like a lot of them artists but I thought it was crap. I did honestly.' Fellow pundit Joe Hart appeared shocked at the candid comment.
The show featured Justin Bieber, Shakira, Madonna, BTS and Burna Boy on the pitch at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. However, only one act impressed Kelly: 'Apart from Animal on the drums,' she wrote, referencing the Muppet character who performed alongside guitarist Janice, Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog.
FIFA's broken rule
The halftime show sparked controversy after FIFA violated its own 15-minute halftime limit. Organisers initially said the show would last 11 minutes, with stage assembly and disassembly extending the break to around 20 minutes. However, the actual duration reached over 27 minutes between referee Slavko Vincic's whistle ending the first half and the start of the second.
World Cup final outcome
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 World Cup final, with Ferran Torres scoring the only goal in the 106th minute after coming off the bench. The goal denied Lionel Messi a second consecutive title in what he indicated would be his final World Cup match. Spain's victory marks their second World Cup title, following their 2010 win against the Netherlands. Argentina had previously won the trophy in 2022 against France.
