Little Mix Reunion Thrown into Disarray Following Jesy Nelson's Heartbreaking Confessions
A potential Little Mix reunion has been plunged into chaos after Jesy Nelson's emotional disclosures in her latest documentary series. The singer, aged 34, disclosed last week that she attempted to take her own life just days before departing the chart-topping band in 2020. In her new Prime Video docu-series, titled Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, she recounted feeling profoundly isolated and asserted that her bandmates—Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, and Jade Thirlwall—overlooked her pleas for assistance leading up to her overdose incident.
Past Struggles and Emotional Fallout
This marked the second time Jesy had tried to commit suicide, following an earlier overdose in 2013, which she previously addressed in her BBC documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out. In response to her recent comments, Leigh-Anne, Perrie, and Jade have reportedly been left deeply saddened, with sources indicating that the revelations have resurrected painful memories from the past. An insider revealed to The Sun that Jesy's confession has opened up old wounds, describing it as having brought up a lot of bad feeling from bygone days.
The source elaborated, stating, 'Jesy's confession has obviously opened up a can of worms for the girls. The documentary itself and the backlash that has followed has brought up a lot of bad feeling from the past. It's been upsetting for the girls, but they are focused on their solo careers and the future now.' While the other Little Mix members have not publicly reacted to Jesy's claims, Jade broke down in tears during her solo tour in the United States while performing the song Natural at Disaster, which is rumoured to be about her strained friendship with Jesy.
Band Dynamics and Solo Pursuits
Lyrics from the track include poignant lines such as, 'It's hard to love you when you hate yourself. Can't be there for you without negatively impacting my mental health.' Meanwhile, Perrie, who recently welcomed her second child, has maintained a low profile on social media, last posting a week ago to promote her new single Woman In Love. Notably, she advanced the release date by four days after initially scheduling it to coincide with Jesy's documentary premiere.
In contrast, Leigh-Anne has been unusually active on social platforms, sharing updates about her new album My Ego Told Me To as she embarks on a tour. She expressed her excitement to fans, saying, 'I can't tell you how excited I am to perform this album live for you! Get me back to my happy place now! This one's going to be so special!' Representatives for Jesy, Jade, Perrie, and Leigh-Anne have been contacted by Daily Mail for comment, but no official statements have been issued yet.
Revelations of Internal Strife and Departure Plans
Elsewhere in the documentary, Jesy claimed that one of the other Little Mix members attempted to quit the band before she ultimately decided to leave the group. She admitted to being blindsided by this unnamed member's decision, having believed that everyone was content at the time. Reports from five years ago suggested that Perrie was the one who initially tried to exit, and Jesy's latest assertions appear to corroborate this narrative.
Jesy detailed in her documentary, 'I thought everyone was in a really good place, but I was wrong. We got called in for a meeting and I just had this gut feeling that it wasn't going to be good. One of the girls had decided they didn't want to be in the band any more. I remember feeling my whole world had fallen apart. It was a really sad day—me and Jade really cried. I was devastated.' When pressed to identify the member, she declined, stating, 'I don't think that's for me to say because they still haven't said.'
Aftermath and Legacy of Little Mix
Following the meeting, it was agreed that Little Mix would disband, but Jesy noted that things became complicated when the band's conclusion was delayed by two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. She experienced a rapid realisation that she was unhappy and had mentally disengaged from the group. Jesy explained, 'That was the moment I thought, I can't do this anymore. I just remember thinking, I cannot last another two years. I felt like it [the relationship with the girls] had shifted. There would be days I would cry and be a miserable b***h. All those little things build up and build up and they do get to a boiling point.'
In 2021, a source informed The Sun that Perrie had expressed her desire to leave the band two years prior, prompting discussions with management. The insider said, 'Perrie actually told the band she was thinking about leaving in 2019 which prompted a sit down with management. In the end she agreed it wasn't the right time and they talked about the Confetti tour which was delayed due to Covid—it was known that after the tour Perrie would bow out of the group.' Little Mix rose to fame after winning The X Factor in 2011 and achieved global success, selling over 75 million records worldwide.
Jesy announced her departure from Little Mix in 2020, citing a need to prioritise her mental health and wellbeing. She revealed that she was deeply hurt when her lawyer informed her bandmates of her decision before she could personally explain, adding, 'I think they felt really hurt about that and it should never have played out like that. I didn't get my opportunity to explain why I couldn't do this anymore. I feel mad that that was taken away from me.' She also disclosed that her bandmates would only communicate with her through a therapist after the split, as she hoped to clarify any misconceptions surrounding their breakup.
