Lee Mack, the host of ITV's popular quiz show The 1% Club, has seen his career soar since his early days working as a stable boy and Blue Coat entertainer. The 54-year-old comedian, born Lee Gordon McKillop above a pub in Southport, Lancashire, now commands a significant salary for his television work, though exact figures remain undisclosed.
Mack's journey to fame began humbly. After a brief stint as a stable boy for racehorse trainer Ginger McCain—where he unknowingly chose Red Rum as his first horse to ride—he worked as a Blue Coat at Pontins holiday resorts. His first attempt at stand-up comedy while at Pontins ended with him being sacked for drunkenly stealing jokes, but he later performed his first open mic slot at Brunel University in 1994, becoming a full-time comedian within 18 months.
Mack met his wife, Tara, at university in 1996, and they married in 2005. The couple live in East Molesey, Surrey, with their three children: Arlo, Millie, and Louie. Mack has joked about people assuming Tara was attracted to his wealth rather than his charm, noting they met before his comedy career took off.
Despite his public success, Mack keeps his private life largely out of the spotlight. He has spoken about his chronic fear of flying, which leads him to drive abroad instead. His family, he says, is the source of much of his creative work, though his wife rarely watches his shows.
