Radio 1 Star Lauren Layfield Welcomes Baby Boy Kit with Husband Luke Beddows
Lauren Layfield Gives Birth to Baby Boy Kit

Radio 1 presenter Lauren Layfield has given birth to her first child with husband Luke Beddows, sharing the first photo of their newborn son on social media. The 38-year-old, who presents The Official Chart: First Look, confirmed the news on Instagram, revealing the baby arrived a couple of weeks ago.

Baby Kit Arrives

In the snap, Layfield cradled their baby boy alongside comedy writer Beddows, but did not reveal the tot's face. Announcing the name as Kit Beddows, she wrote in a lengthy caption: "Baby Kit arrived a couple weeks ago (born raving to Fatboy Slim) and after saying we'd NEVER have kids…it was absolute love at first sight. He is the sweetest thing."

She added: "He's actually SO adorbs, I did debate whether the IVF clinic got our embryos mixed up and we've ended up with the child of a much more good-looking couple, y'know the kind of story you'd see on the front cover of Take A Break magazine? Anyway, I'm keeping him because I'm OBSSSSED."

Motherhood and Gratitude

Layfield expressed her feelings about motherhood, saying: "I feel like I have a million things to say about motherhood, about choosing (or choosing not) to have children, about IVF, about the career-parenthood paradox…I'll try and get round to that when my brain's working again. But for now I'm just embarrassingly grateful for Luke who is THE funnest person to do this with."

The former CBBC presenter also thanked "amazing, clever doctors" and "the people who look after my work for being so supportive while I take a little break for the first time since I was 21(!?)" She added: "And for the friends, family and neighbours who have filled our house with cards and flowers and gifts and Deliveroo vouchers and said the words 'let us know if you need anything'. (Also grateful for champagne, that first glass absolutely banged) LUCKY."

Congratulations from Fans and Friends

Fans and famous faces rushed to the comments with sweet messages. Capital FM's Sonny Jay wrote: "Awww congratulations. Enjoy the baby bubble." Michelle Ackerley commented: "OMG congratulations you gorgeous mama! What an amazing name! Sending love to the 3 of you." A fan said: "Aw! Glad you got hit with the love bomb. You two are going to make awesome parents." Another added: "Congratulations both, you'll be the best parents. Kit will 100% be a rock star."

Pregnancy Announcement and IVF Journey

Layfield announced her pregnancy in March, revealing she had undergone IVF treatments. Unveiling her baby bump, she said: "Guys, in what's been called 'a very off-brand' move from us…we're having an actual baby! After almost 20 years(!) together, little IVF baby Beddows arrives to ruin our lives in June."

The following month, she described the pregnancy as "rough" in a candid Instagram post, saying: "I like: having my bump out. It's made me realise how much TIME we spend sucking in, trying not to breathe out, tightening, calorie-controlling, running, crunching, pilatesing, Ozempicing, ordering Skims, not ordering dessert… God its exhausting isn't it? I love bowling about like a Teletubby and not hating myself. I dislike: everything else. Pregnancy is rough. I REFUSE to believe there are people out there who loved it, it's impossible."

The couple tied the knot in 2021.
