Laura Hamilton, the presenter of Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, has responded defiantly to an online troll who claimed she was 'too old' to wear a bikini. The 43-year-old shared a new photo of herself poolside in a blue and white bikini, along with a video relaxing with her daughter, and addressed the criticism in a social media post.
In the caption, Hamilton wrote: 'Who decides when we’re ‘too old’ for anything? I recently read a comment saying I was too old to wear a bikini… and it honestly made me stop and think for a second. But then I reminded myself, life’s way too short to worry about what other people think.' She emphasised that her choice to wear the swimsuit was not a reaction to the comment but simply because she felt comfortable.
Hamilton urged her followers to embrace confidence regardless of age: 'We all have days when we feel self‑conscious, but we deserve to enjoy the sunshine, the beach, the pool - whatever makes us happy - no matter our age and whether we choose to wear a swimsuit or a bikini!!' She concluded with the message: 'Live your life and feel good in your own skin.'
Fans flooded the comments with support, praising her confidence and refusal to be shamed. One wrote: 'You look incredible and are such an inspiration to women everywhere. Age means nothing when you look and feel great.' Another added: 'Thank you for speaking up. I’m in my forties too and often feel judged for wearing what I want - you’ve just given me the confidence to stop caring.'
Hamilton has been a presenter on A Place in the Sun since 2011, making her the second-longest serving host after Jasmine Harman. When asked about her future on the show, she said she hopes to continue filming and is also involved in property ventures outside of television.
