Good Morning America host Lara Spencer has shared the heartbreaking news of her mother's passing. Carolyn Von Seelen died on February 13 at the age of 85, surrounded by her children and beloved rescue dog.
A Heartfelt Tribute on Social Media
In an emotional Instagram post, Spencer paid tribute to her mother, describing her as a woman whose smile could light up any room. She recalled her mother's favorite phrase: "don't be sad it's over honey — be grateful it happened."
"Sorry mama but there's no way to not feel the pain of overwhelming sadness at the thought of not having you to share life with each day," Spencer wrote, "but we sure are grateful YOU happened and showered us with your loving warmth and humor."
Remembering a Matriarch's Legacy
Spencer praised her mother's remarkable qualities, highlighting her courage, resilience, endless optimism, deep faith, and boundless love for family. Carolyn Von Seelen was a grandmother to 12 and great-grandmother to four.
The television host noted the significance of the date, mentioning that her mother passed away on Friday the 13th, a detail she believed her mother would have found amusing. Spencer expressed that her mother has now reunited with her father and sister Pamela.
