Lady Louise Windsor graduated from St Andrews University on July 2, 2026, earning a degree in English after four years of study. The 22-year-old daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh beamed as she walked across the stage at Younger Hall, where she knelt on a cushion for the traditional "capping" ceremony. She wore a black skirt, white shirt, black heels, and graduation robes.
Gap Year Plans and Royal Status
Lady Louise is expected to take a gap year involving work, volunteering, and travel before exploring career opportunities. Despite her parents being working royals, she is not anticipated to become a working royal herself. Her parents, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, chose not to give Louise and her brother James, Earl of Wessex, HRH titles to allow them a normal upbringing. In 2020, Sophie told The Times: "We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely to have to work for a living. Hence, we made the decision not to use HRH titles. They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it's highly unlikely."
Academic Journey
Louise attended St Andrews University, the alma mater of the Prince and Princess of Wales, after completing her A Levels. Scottish universities typically offer four-year courses, compared to the three-year standard in England and Wales. Louise regularly attends royal events such as Trooping the Colour and Christmas celebrations but is not expected to take on official royal duties.
