YouTube sensation LadBaby, real name Mark Hoyle, made a memorable appearance at the Pride of Scotland awards in Glasgow, where he produced a hidden bottle of Buckfast from his kilt and tipped Scotland as a potential dark horse for the upcoming World Cup.
Buckfast Surprise and Kilty Pleasures
Arriving at the Hilton Glasgow on Monday night with his wife Roxanne, LadBaby embraced Scottish culture by wearing a kilt. The couple, who flew in the day before, joked about the chilly weather but praised Scotland as a 'wonderful place'. Pulling out a bottle of Buckfast from his kilt, LadBaby quipped: 'Cold is what it feels to be in Scotland... and thankfully it's not raining, but you know it could be a little bit warmer. It's a wonderful place. We flew in yesterday and I'll be terribly honest with you it has been just a joy. And we know how to party by the way.'
Praise for the Awards
The YouTube star expressed his delight at being part of the event, having previously attended the Pride of Britain awards. He said: 'We've been on holidays and we've just bought our own sauces. We're going for world domination. I know that we know that this is the first step, take Scotland and then we'll move on. We enjoy our community. It's amazing to get invited to events like this. We've been to Pride of Britain a few times and now it's all about Scotland and such a lovely event.'
World Cup Predictions
When the conversation turned to football, LadBaby surprisingly backed Scotland to exceed expectations, though he made his own loyalties clear. He stated: 'I hope you guys do well. I think you will be better than everyone is giving you credit. Oh, I think you'll be a dark horse.' However, he quickly added with a smile: 'I think you go further but there's no soft spot. Come on, England.' His wife, Ladmum, admitted having a soft spot for Scotland.
Nathan Evans Joins Football Talk
Also present at the red carpet was Airdrie singer Nathan Evans, who performed with Saint Phnx. He shared his excitement about the World Cup, saying: 'We've got babies, we've got songs, we've got football. It's been a whirlwind and somebody needs to ask my wife how I fit it all in. We're away for the World Cup in a couple of days and then from the World Cup we support Amy Macdonald and Tom Jones.' Evans, attending the awards for the fourth year, praised the event: 'This is our fourth year here and it's incredible. From start to finish it is just positive stories all the way through, what they've came from, what they've been through and what they're doing. I've got hankies ready because there is the unbelievable achievements they have done for communities.'
