Kylie Minogue Reveals Michael Hutchence Was 'Love of Her Life'
Kylie Minogue: Michael Hutchence Was 'Love of My Life'

Kylie Minogue has opened up about her current relationship status, revealing that she is single and that her late ex-boyfriend Michael Hutchence was the real 'love of her life'. The notoriously private singer, now 58, admitted she would rather remain single than settle for the wrong person.

Kylie on Being Single

'No, I don't have a boyfriend. I was in a relationship and when that ended I realised I was OK on my own. I'm definitely getting pickier,' Kylie told The Sydney Morning Herald. The Spinning Around hitmaker also identified a major red flag: 'Narcissists. I've dated one, and I'm very grateful I now have that knowledge. That's like my red hot "no".'

Michael Hutchence: The Love of Her Life

Reflecting on her two-year relationship with the late INXS frontman, Kylie said, 'Yes, probably [was the love of my life]. I've had lots of relationships, some were love, some were not. My relationship with him, or our relationship at the time, was not for that long, but it had a profound effect on me.' The couple dated from 1989 to 1991 when Kylie was in her early 20s.

New Documentary Reveals More

In her new Netflix documentary titled Kylie, she further opened up about their bond. 'I was 21 when we met — and really impressionable... I mean that in the best possible way,' she said. Kylie admitted Hutchence had a profound impact on her life and that she still thinks of him. 'He just had such an impact on me. He was a smart, kind, deep, artistic and interesting human. We went on this beautiful journey of a relationship. His passing in 1997 was a loss to so many, including myself.'

She credited him with opening her up to new experiences. 'People wonder why I'm still so moved... it's for many reasons. One of those is that he was one of my first big steps into adulthood, into the wider world. A world of possibility and discovery. Travel, literature, excess, connections, art, artistry, expression, performance and on and on the list goes! I was the perfect age for that moment.'

The documentary offers an intimate look at both her personal and professional life. Last month, Kylie dropped a trailer featuring a sweet archive video of her passionately kissing Hutchence, showcasing their happy times together.
