Boyzone singer Keith Duffy has publicly commended the Titanic Museum in Belfast for providing a special private tour for his daughter Mia, who is autistic. The 51-year-old star, known for his advocacy work on autism awareness, organised the visit to accommodate his 25-year-old daughter's needs, particularly her difficulty with queues.
A Heartwarming Gesture from the Museum
After explaining Mia's condition to the museum staff, Keith was delighted when the attraction offered them exclusive access before the doors opened to the general public. This thoughtful accommodation allowed Mia to enjoy the experience without the stress of crowded spaces, highlighting the museum's commitment to inclusivity.
Mia's Impressive Titanic Expertise
During the tour, Mia's profound knowledge of the Titanic quickly became apparent. She confidently corrected the tour guide on specific details, such as the number of riveting bolts used on different sides of the engine room. Keith recounted how she took over the hosting duties, sharing intricate facts about the ship's voyage with enthusiasm.
In an interview with the Belfast Telegraph, Keith described the moment: "I said to the girl, 'You come over here,' and she came over and I put my arm round her and said, 'Me and you will take the tour, we'll let Mia give it.' So I said, 'Alright Mia, you tell us about it now!' So she took over and look, it was great craic."
Keith Duffy's Advocacy and Foundation
Keith has been a vocal campaigner for autism awareness since Mia was diagnosed as a toddler. Through his Keith Duffy Foundation, he has raised significant funds to support other children affected by autism. This recent museum visit not only brought joy to Mia but also underscored the importance of creating accessible experiences for individuals with autism.
Boyzone Reunion and Rivalry Rumours
Amidst this personal story, Keith also addressed rumours of rivalry with fellow Irish band Westlife. He firmly stated that he sees "no rivalry" between the groups, despite years of fan debates. Currently, Keith tours with Westlife star Brian McFadden under the duo name BoyzLife, which has required him to relearn Boyzone songs after primarily performing backing vocals in the past.
The singer's pride in his daughter's accomplishments and his ongoing advocacy work continue to inspire fans, blending personal triumphs with his professional endeavours in the music industry.
