S Club 7 star Jon Lee has revealed he hadn't been on a date for six years before joining the cast of Celebs Go Dating. The 43-year-old singer is appearing on the new series of the E4 dating show, which begins next week, and says he's finally showing the public a more authentic side of himself.
Speaking ahead of the show's airing, Lee admitted to feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. 'I hadn't dated in six years, I'm hopeless! So I needed all the help I could get,' he said. He described the experience as therapeutic, noting that the dating experts held up a mirror to his behaviour and helped him understand his past.
Lee, who rose to fame in the pop group S Club 7, said he got emotional during the process and found it a relief to let those feelings out. 'I spoke about things I haven't spoken about before – to say them out loud was therapeutic,' he explained. He added that he now feels more comfortable in himself and believes it's important to be fully happy before seeking a relationship.
The singer also reflected on how his time in the band shaped his public persona. 'I've always been Jon from S Club where you have to present yourself in a certain way,' he said. 'So to be 100% myself was a new thing for me and for the public to see. It was refreshing.'
