John Cena stars in Netflix's new sibling comedy Little Brother, which debuted on 26 June 2025. The film follows Rudd (Cena), a successful property agent whose life is disrupted when his eccentric younger brother Marcus (Eric André) reappears. But what about Cena's real-life brothers?
John Cena Has Four Brothers
Cena, 49, is the second oldest of five boys: Stephen, Dan, Matthew, and Sean. He has often spoken about their close childhood.
Stephen (Steve) Cena
Steve, the eldest, is a theatre performer who has appeared in thriller Bloody Island and the 2019 horror Return to Clark County. On the I Played, Too podcast, he said: "As we've grown into adulthood, we've absolutely gotten much closer. I'm still kind of a quiet person; I still tend to keep to myself, but if I'm home visiting, we'll go out to dinner. We're very friendly with each other. It's great seeing my family."
Dan Cena
Dan, John's younger brother, is a police officer. In 2007, he was hit by a drink-driver while on patrol, fracturing his left leg. He recovered fully, as he recounted on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2019 alongside John.
Matthew Cena
Matthew has stayed out of the spotlight but was a key supporter of John's wrestling career. In 2000, he begged Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson for tickets to a sold-out WWE event where John had his first dark match. The Rock obliged. Matthew recalled in the documentary Once in a Lifetime: The Rock vs. John Cena: "I said, 'My brother's got this tryout match for the WWE, it's a big thing for him and I don't know if you could help or not, but I would love to go.'"
Sean Cena
Sean, the youngest, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 2011 but beat the disease. John told the Huffington Post: "I had a personal run-in with cancer. My youngest brother, Sean, had an inoperable brain tumour. He's the last of five boys, so he's the most reserved out of all of us. I saw what he went through though, and the treatment he had to rely upon. I saw him going through being a boy to becoming a man. What he went through keeps us so motivated. Around the family, we call him our 'silent champion.'"
Little Brother is streaming on Netflix.
