Joanna Page Recalls Mortifying Blunder After Kissing Johnny Depp
Actress Joanna Page, best known for her role in the hit series Gavin and Stacey, has opened up about a deeply embarrassing moment that occurred after she shared a kiss with Hollywood icon Johnny Depp in a hotel. The 48-year-old Love Actually star detailed the incident in a recent interview, explaining it happened following a dinner with Depp, her co-star from the 2001 film From Hell.
The Thrilling Kiss and Subsequent Mortification
Page vividly recalled the evening, describing how Depp slid his arms around her waist and kissed her gently on each corner of the lips. "My breath was knocked out of me. It's everything you would think and more," she told The Times. So thrilled was she that she immediately phoned her mother to share the news, exclaiming, "Johnny Depp kissed me!" and admitting she didn't sleep that night due to the excitement.
However, the following day took an awkward turn. On set, while squatting on the floor and feeling flustered, Page accidentally passed gas in front of Depp. "I was mortified," she confessed, as reported by Wales Online. This candid revelation highlights the humorous yet cringe-worthy side of celebrity encounters.
Early Career Struggles and Financial Hardships
This isn't the first time Page has discussed her career journey. She previously acknowledged that Gavin and Stacey initially offered little financial reward. During a period when both she and her husband, actor James Thornton, saw their BBC shows axed, Page had to take a job in a shoe shop to make ends meet.
"It was terrifying but we scraped through – me by working at a shoe shop, James by doing voiceovers. Then, luckily, we started getting acting work again," she told the Mail on Sunday. She and co-star Mathew Horne recently laughed about how poorly the show paid at first, despite its eventual success.
Gavin and Stacey's Rise and Post-Series Ventures
Despite the initial low pay, Gavin and Stacey grew into a beloved national treasure, captivating UK audiences until its finale in late 2024. Page described the experience as "bittersweet," revealing she spent her days "laughing and crying" during the show's run.
After the series wrapped, Page launched a podcast called 'Lush! With Joanna Page', where she discusses various topics, including her marriage to Thornton, whom she wed in 2003. In a recent episode, the couple, who share four children, opened up about their unconventional sleeping arrangements, sometimes sleeping in separate bedrooms.
Page elaborated, saying she often chooses to sleep with their youngest child, Boe, because "she's like a warm rabbit!" and finds the cosy moments more appealing than sharing a bed with her husband. This insight adds a personal touch to Page's life beyond the spotlight, showcasing her relatable family dynamics.
