Jimmy Kimmel Slams Republicans Over Charlie Kirk Murder Claims

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has criticised Republicans for attempting to capitalise on the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, accusing them of baselessly blaming the far left. On his show, Kimmel highlighted comments from Vice President JD Vance, who hosted Kirk's podcast from the White House and claimed, without evidence, that most political violence stems from the left.

Kimmel dismissed Vance's assertion as 'complete bullshit', noting that the Department of Justice had removed a study from its website which found far-right groups to be the greatest source of domestic terror. He also referenced the January 6 Capitol riot, asking: 'Who wanted to hang the guy who was vice president before you? Was that the liberal left? Or the toothless army who stormed the Capitol?'

The segment also covered Donald Trump's $15bn defamation lawsuit against the New York Times, which Kimmel described as 'ridiculous'. He mocked the legal document, which lists Trump's 'hundreds of history-making appearances' including WrestleMania V and All My Children, joking that Trump 'met Melania on 90 Day Fiancé'.

Elsewhere, Stephen Colbert celebrated his show's first Emmy win for outstanding variety talk series, while noting Trump's lack of an Emmy. Colbert also covered Trump's state visit to the UK, where he will stay at Windsor Castle away from planned protests. Protesters unfurled a banner showing Trump with Jeffrey Epstein, prompting Colbert to quip about a 'very unfortunate parachute' for gym class.
