Jim Carrey looked 'unrecognisable' during a rare public outing at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in November 2025, prompting a flurry of comments on social media. Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their shock at his transformed appearance.
The 63-year-old actor, known for his roles in The Truman Show and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, sported a shorter gelled-back hairstyle at the event, paired with a knee-length black blazer with white stripes, a graphic t-shirt, black trousers and boots. This marked his first public appearance of the year, following a previous outing at the Cesar Film Awards in Paris in February 2025, where he had shoulder-length hair and an all-black tuxedo.
Carrey has significantly reduced his public engagements and has not taken on an acting role since Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 2024. He has previously spoken about feeling disconnected from the film industry, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2018: 'I just didn't want to be in the business anymore. I didn't like what was happening, the corporations taking over and all that.'
Since stepping back from Hollywood, Carrey has focused on art, including painting, drawing, sculpture and political cartooning. He has expressed a sense of freedom in his new pursuits, stating: 'I don't feel I'm little Jim trying to hang on to a place in the stratosphere anymore.'
Regarding a potential return to acting, Carrey remains cautious. He told Access Hollywood: 'I feel like I have enough, I've done enough, I am enough. I really like my quiet life. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that's written in gold ink... I might continue down the road, but I'm taking a break.'
