Jennifer Lopez's Super Bowl Co-Headline with Shakira Labelled 'Worst Idea'

Jennifer Lopez has revealed her fury over sharing the Super Bowl 2020 halftime show with Shakira, calling it the 'worst idea in the world'. In her new Netflix documentary, Halftime, the 52-year-old star said she argued with NFL executives about why two female performers were needed when usually a solo artist is given the honour.

Lopez told her music director: 'We have six f**king minutes. We have 30 seconds of a song, and if we take a minute, that's it, we've got five left.' She added: 'This is the worst idea in the world to have two people do the Super Bowl.'

The popstar explained that she had been working towards performing at the Super Bowl 'for years' and that normally there is only one headliner. Her manager Benny Medina said: 'It was an insult to say you needed two Latinas to do the job that one artist historically has done.'

Despite the tensions, Lopez and Shakira remained professional, splitting the allotted performance time. Lopez insisted: 'If it was going to be a double-headliner, they should have given us 20 minutes. That's what they should've f**king done.'

The halftime show was well-received critically, earning five Primetime Emmy nominations and winning one. The NFL has since booked multiple artists for the 2022 halftime show, featuring Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent.
