Jamie Oliver has expressed his heartbreak following the death of British menswear designer Nigel Cabourn, who passed away at the age of 77 on June 11, 2026. The chef, 51, paid tribute to his friend in a heartfelt message on Instagram, calling him a 'legend' and thanking him for his inspiration.
Nigel Cabourn's Legacy in Fashion
Cabourn, who enjoyed a 60-year career in fashion, was known for his vintage-inspired designs drawn from military uniforms, mountaineering apparel, and workwear. His archive contained more than 4,000 historic garments. He launched his first label, Cricket, in 1969 while studying at Newcastle College of Art and Industrial Design.
Born near Scunthorpe in 1949 and later based in the north-east of England, Cabourn became a beloved figure in British menswear. He is survived by his wife Janet Bell and their children Sophie, Ben, and Lucy.
Oliver's Tribute
In an Instagram post that reached Cabourn's 321,000 followers, Jamie Oliver wrote: 'So very sad Nigel we love you bless you and the family such a legend I will miss following your curiosity and inspirations thank you for everything xxxx.'
Oliver, who is known for wearing vintage British workwear, had a close connection with Cabourn. He also appeared in an exclusive interview for the book 'Vintage Nigel Cabourn,' which explores the designer's career and archive.
Funeral Arrangements
Cabourn's family shared an update on funeral arrangements via his Instagram account. They wrote: 'We know Nige meant so much to so many people, and we’re concerned about unintentionally missing someone who was dear to him.
