Jamie Oliver Admits Being 'Conceptually Thick' Led to Restaurant Empire Collapse

Jamie Oliver has admitted that being 'conceptually thick' was the reason he lost his restaurant empire, resulting in the closure of 22 Jamie Italian restaurants in 2019 and the loss of 1,000 jobs.

Appearing on Davina McCall's Begin Again podcast on Thursday (18 September), the TV chef said he has a negative view of himself when it comes to maths, which led to him 'getting the basics wrong' in business.

Oliver explained that while his team excelled at the difficult aspects of running the restaurants, they failed on the fundamentals. 'All the hard stuff we got right... it was really the basics,' he said.
