Alice Evans has given an emotional interview on Lorraine, her first TV interview since publicly tweeting about her split from husband Ioan Gruffudd. The actress, who was with Gruffudd for 20 years, spoke about the breakdown of their marriage and her shock at learning of his new relationship.
Evans told Lorraine Kelly that the split was unexpected, saying: 'We’d been together for 20 years and I think I was one of those very complacent…smug married…I thought it was never going to happen to me.' She added that Gruffudd told her within days: 'I just don’t love you anymore.'
The actress described living with Gruffudd during the pandemic as distant, saying: 'He wouldn’t talk to me, wouldn’t look at me, went to sleep in the spare room.' She also revealed that there is currently no communication between them, with Gruffudd only speaking through lawyers.
Evans broke down when describing the moment she saw an Instagram post from Gruffudd announcing his relationship with Bianca Wallace. She said: 'He insisted until two weeks ago that there was nobody else…and then it was announced by him and his mistress that they were a couple.'
Speaking about her decision to tweet about the split, Evans admitted she feared she might 'do herself harm' and said: 'I just tweeted: “He’s leaving us,” and then all hell broke loose.' She noted that public support has shifted in her favour, with 80-90% now supporting her speaking out.
