GTA 6 Launch Trailer Underwhelms as Readers Question Marketing
GTA 6 Launch Trailer Underwhelms, Readers Question Marketing

The Friday letters page is underwhelmed by the GTA 6 launch trailer, as a reader struggles to identify Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Games Inbox is a collection of our readers’ letters, comments, and opinions. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@metro.co.uk.

Final Trailer Disappoints

One reader, Kobe, expressed disappointment with the GTA 6 launch trailer, noting it felt like it was made by Cyberleek because it didn't seem to show or tell anything new. While there were some new shots and it looked impressive, the reader felt there was no explanation of features or the story before the game's release. They suggested that for a new game with secrets to keep, this could be positive, but for GTA 6, it feels like there are no secrets to reveal.

The reader also questioned whether there would be much of a plot, comparing it to GTA 5's basic story and suggesting GTA 6 might be even looser. They noted this isn't necessarily a bad thing if players can do whatever they want and characters react, but it may not be what people expect. The mission in the Netflix show seemed standard, and the reader expressed a dislike for how Rockstar is marketing the game so far.

Call Of Duty Ad Criticised

Another reader, Bobwallett, commented on the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 advert seen during the Frazier ad break. They said if the end title was left off, they wouldn't be able to tell which game it was because the ad was so generic it could have been any Call Of Duty game from the last 20 years. The reader usually plays the campaigns from most Call Of Duty games but plans to skip this one as it looks like a remake or re-release.

Bobwallett suggested Activision needs to rethink things and perhaps downscale the warfare aspect, making it like Tears of the Sun type of small action set pieces with quieter moments of recon and trap setting.

Reader's GTA 5 Habits

Mark Matthews wrote in about GTA 5 completion, saying he's had various versions for around 10 years and spent maybe 70% of the time messing about in director mode and the rest in story mode. He doesn't think he's got very far at all, just likes driving around causing trouble. He's played online mode twice for about half hour total and is pretty sure he'll get GTA 6 and play exactly the same way.

Street Fighter Movie Reviews

Hammeriron commented on the Street Fighter movie reviews being terrible, as expected. They noted this year hasn't been a perfect run for Capcom after all, though they don't think Capcom has much to do with the movie. The reader questioned how to make a movie out of something like Street Fighter, noting the original has some good memes but is mostly boring. They believe most video games don't make for very good movies, citing The Last Of Us as already half movie and turned into a show, not a film.

Hammeriron said horror works because you don't have to stick close to the original game as long as it's scary, which is why the new Resident Evil movie works for them and why they're glad it's the best-selling. They noted Silent Hill has never been done right, but they like the live action shorts for Soma and hope for something similar for the same team's game Ontos next year.

Nintendo vs Xbox Reactions

Tim commented on different reactions from companies, noting Nintendo's lawyers are quick to act on illegal activities with their games, while Xbox's reaction to people using AI to decompile games and port them to other hardware is to set up a division to see what else is possible and apparently do it in the open, sharing tooling on GitHub. GC responded that it means they want to make money from it.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Review

Tommo praised the review of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, finding it more believable than some crazy 10/10 scores. They're glad to see Castlevania back but noted a cheap 2D game with cartoon graphics is not ideal. Tommo believes Bloodborne is the closest to what a 3D Castlevania should be, though not exactly because it's not a Metroidvania. They think Konami should aim for that in terms of atmosphere, quality, and graphics, while lightening things up with dialogue and not making it too hard.

Tommo said at a time when people are hungry for a new FromSoftware game and Soulslikes are getting rarer, the time for a 3D Castlevania is now, though they think Konami might be too late. They hope it happens anyway, noting it's crazy to have a new Silent Hill game every year and a new Castlevania only once a decade.

Steam Refund Policy vs Sony's

Ralfie expressed anger over the Steam refund policy being overly fair compared to Sony's, which they described as completely awful. They said there's no way Sony should get away with it and noted no protests or petitions about it, with people only complaining about the lack of discs. Ralfie said Sony treating gamers like dirt in terms of refunds is completely on them, and they don't see it ever changing.

Fire Emblem DLC Frustration

Jack H. wrote about being excited for a new Fire Emblem entry more similar to Three Houses and immediately pre-ordering the collector's edition. Now that DLC has been announced shortly after release, they feel frustrated at Nintendo, especially since they're not even finished all of Part 1 for each character. They're still interested to see where the DLC goes, with routes that are essentially 'cut content' from the game's story, especially after an interview stating they originally planned for eight different routes.

Jack H. wondered if this will become common practice for every Nintendo title, recalling Pokémon Legends Z-A had a similar DLC announcement before release. They questioned whether DLC should always get the treatment of content that should've been packaged with the original game, especially for those who purchased more expensive editions. GC responded that they originally planned eight characters but there's no indication the new protagonists are the ones that were abandoned or that this is cut content, noting Fortune’s Weave is one of the biggest games of recent years with off-the-charts value for money.

Inbox Also-Rans

ShaunOMacY2J (gamertag) praised the Biohazard fan film with Chandler Riggs, saying it was great, very well put together, and very accurate to the opening hours.

ANON noted the concept of a collector’s edition that doesn’t include the game isn't new, citing Wolfenstein: The New Colossus which came out nine years ago, almost to the day. GC responded that as they said, for whatever reason it's always been the norm.
