Hugh Grant was left baffled after Formula One host Martin Brundle questioned him about a television series he had never been in during an interview at the British Grand Prix on Sunday. The awkward exchange took place at Silverstone, where the Hollywood star was among a host of celebrities attending the race, which was won by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
Martin Brundle's Awkward Mistake
Martin Brundle, who has been reporting on Formula One for years, regularly interviews celebrities in the paddock as he navigates the VIP section with his microphone. However, on this occasion, he made a notable gaffe when he approached the 65-year-old actor. Assuring Grant that he only wanted a "quick chat," Brundle asked: "Are you doing another round of The Gentlemen soon? Because I really loved that."
Appearing not to hear the presenter, Grant leaned in as Brundle repeated: "Are you doing another series of The Gentlemen?" Looking distinctly perplexed, the Four Weddings and a Funeral star clarified: "Well I did the film of The Gentlemen, I haven't seen the TV series." Brundle, looking somewhat surprised, responded: "Oh right, it's really good – you really must." He quickly wrapped up the exchange, saying: "I've got 10 seconds left for the national anthem. Good to see you on the grid."
Hugh Grant's Role in The Gentlemen Film
While Grant was not involved in Netflix's television series The Gentlemen, which stars Theo James, he did appear in the 2020 action-comedy film of the same name. In the movie, the Bridget Jones star played Fletcher, a private investigator at a tabloid newspaper who pursues information about drug lord Mickey Pearson. The film was directed by Guy Ritchie and also featured Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, and Colin Farrell.
Other Celebrities at the British Grand Prix
Grant was joined by a host of other stars on Sunday, including singer Adele. The Hometown Glory star dressed casually in a t-shirt paying tribute to 2025 World Champion Lando Norris and his McLaren racing team, accessorised with a necklace that spelled out the word "mummy." Also present was Queen guitarist Brian May, who was photographed visiting the Ferrari garage ahead of the race, deep in conversation with his trademark bouffant curls. Stacey Solomon, star of Sort Your Life Out, attended with her husband Joe Swash, her father Dave, and her ex-partner Dean, with whom she shares son Zachary. Solomon described the day as a "rare" outing without their children, adding that the group, including Dean's wife, were having a wonderful time.
