What to Expect in Episode 5
Despite Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) taking the Iron Throne, war looks inevitable after Ormund Hightower (James Norton) betrayed the new queen and took over Tumbleton, his soldiers abusing the locals. Ormund's tactical move puts Rhaenyra in a predicament: she must choose whether to burn Tumbleton to end the threat or let the Hightower troops remain after the town raised banners for her.
Rhaenyra has also been left reeling after Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) presented her with the burnt head of a man he claimed was responsible for Jace Velaryon's (Harry Collett) death at the Battle of the Gullet. He was hiding the fact that his daughter Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell) was accidentally behind the death, and this lie is likely to come back to haunt him.
Teaser Trailer Hints at Action
HBO has released a teaser trailer for the episode. Rhaenyra says: “My patience has its bounds,” suggesting she plans to burn Tumbleton to take out her enemies. Ormund gloats as the pieces fall into place for his grand scheme. Meanwhile, Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) appears to be fighting fit again in Harrenhal after his brush with death, thanks to Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin). Aemond tells Alys: “Rhaenyra’s defiled our great house… diminished the Iron Throne. She is no queen.” The battle lines are drawn as various armies come together to fight on multiple fronts.
