Heartstopper Forever Trailer Shows Long-Distance Relationship Struggles
Heartstopper Forever Trailer: Long-Distance Love Problems

Lovers Nick and Charlie are seen arguing as they face the challenge of a long-distance relationship in a trailer for the new movie, Heartstopper Forever.

The upcoming feature film will follow on from the popular LGBT+ series, which stars Kit Connor as rugby player Nick Nelson and Joe Locke as his boyfriend, Charlie Spring, as they navigate school and young love.

In a trailer released by Netflix on Tuesday, tensions are rising between the couple as they struggle with being apart while Nick heads to university and Charlie finds his independence at school.

The trailer opens with the couple walking along a beach and holding hands, along with glimpses from the highly acclaimed series of happy moments from their relationship.

Charlie says: “Everyone thinks teenage relationships don’t last. I guess I’m an optimist, then.”

The pair are seen moving on with their lives, with Charlie enjoying a party with his school friends as Nick appears to make new ones.

Nick is also seen writing a personal statement for university, while Charlie says: “Nick always thinks about the future. It’s like he’s there in his mind already, trying to stop a mistake that hasn’t happened yet.”

“I never used to think about the future at all,” he adds, as it is revealed he is talking to his friends Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney) and Isaac Henderson (Tobie Donovan).

“It’s because you were too busy surviving,” Isaac replies, referencing the events of the series during which Charlie struggled with mental health issues such as anorexia, depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Nick is then seen at a party drinking alcohol, before walking outside to confront Charlie and an unknown character where he says: “You were just flirting with my boyfriend.”

Over a montage of Charlie enjoying partying with his friends, Nick continues: “Who even am I, if you don’t need me any more?”

The couple are shown arguing, and Charlie insists, “I want you to be happy,” while Nick snaps back: “I’m only happy when I’m with you.”

Charlie tearfully says: “I don’t think that’s how it should be.”

Nick is then seen in an aggressive brawl on the rugby pitch, before a montage shows loving moments between him and Charlie.

The trailer is set to Stupid Song by Olivia Rodrigo, and text on the screen reads: “True love stories never really end.”

Glimpses are then seen of their friends at what appears to be a prom, and Tao Xu (William Gao) says: “It’s not as sad as you think. All of us, whether we’re together or not, the love that connects us will never break.

“We built it, and it built us.”

The bittersweet trailer ends with Nick sitting alongside his boyfriend on a wall as they reach for each other’s hands, and Charlie says: “We look after each other, don’t we?”

Nick replies: “Always.”

The series first launched on Netflix in April 2022 and developed a huge fanbase, and is based on the Heartstopper graphic novel series by Alice Oseman.

Connor and Locke have starred in the smash-hit show for three seasons, and are both named as executive producers on the upcoming film.

Speaking to Netflix website Tudum, Connor said: “These characters have meant a lot to us over the years.

“As executive producers, it feels like we can really say goodbye to them in a way that feels the most right. It is bittersweet, but it is also a really nice way of ending it.”

Heartstopper Forever will be available to watch on Netflix from July 17.
