Variety claimed the former One Direction star, known for roles in Don’t Worry Darling and Dunkirk, could be in the running for the iconic role.

The speculation has drawn sharp reactions on social media. On Reddit, user No-Hall-3485 joked: ‘I should check my email to see if they tried to contact me for Bond.’ Another user, ca_peach, asked: ‘Why is picking a new James Bond harder than picking the Pope?’
