Harry Kane and wife Kate's journey from school sweethearts to Ballon d'Or
Harry and Kate Kane: From school sweethearts to Ballon d'Or

Harry Kane was crowned the best player in the world at the Ballon d'Or ceremony, with his wife Kate by his side. The England captain collected the most prestigious individual honour in football at the London Palladium, and while partners were seated elsewhere during the announcement, Kate was there for the crowning moment of his career.

Childhood sweethearts

The couple first met at Larkswood Primary School before both attending Chingford Foundation School in Waltham Forest. The school has produced footballing talent, including former England captain David Beckham, and an old photograph shows Harry and Kate posing alongside Beckham as teenagers. Harry's prom date later became his wife.

Harry has said he feels fortunate to have found his partner before his career took off because he knows why she is with him. He told the Standard: "If I were single now and meeting people, you'd never know if they were with you for the right reasons. Is it the money? You'd never really know. So, I'm lucky that I've got a childhood sweetheart."

Secret wedding and family life

After dating for over a decade, Harry proposed during a holiday in the Bahamas in 2017. The couple announced their engagement with a beach photograph on social media. In June 2019, they married in an intimate ceremony at an undisclosed location, keeping the celebrations private and sharing the news with fans online a few days later.

The couple have faced online abuse, with Harry addressing "hurtful" comments from trolls who suggested he "could do better" and claimed Kate did not fit the stereotypical image of a WAG. "It's far too simple for people to go online, hurl insults and think that's acceptable," he said.

Growing family and Kate's own career

The couple have four children: Ivy Jane Kane (born January 2017), Vivienne Jane Kane (August 2018), Louis Harry Kane (December 2020), and Henry Edward Kane (August 2023). They also own two Labrador dogs, Brady and Wilson. Announcing their fourth child on Instagram, Harry wrote: "Welcome to the world Henry Edward Kane. 20/8/2023. Love you baby boy!"

Kate has established her own career as a personal trainer after studying sports science at university. She occasionally shares workouts and healthy lifestyle advice on Instagram and has supported charitable projects linked to the Harry Kane Foundation, including a collaboration with jewellery brand Loquet London to raise money for promoting positive mental health among children and young people.
