Liliana Myers, the widow of Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers, has issued a "painful" statement after receiving an unexpected update about her late husband.
Myers died in February 2024 at the age of 66 following a battle with cancer. The cherished English TV chef and presenter gained fame through the Hairy Bikers series with Si King and charmed the nation with his stint on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013.
Triggered by news of final TV series
More than two years since his passing, Liliana took to Facebook to open up about her "pain" after being "triggered" by an email she received.
She wrote: "And there it is! The trigger. The little thing that pulls us back into the pain, that stab that we try to avoid but we know it's coming.
"An email telling me Dave's last TV series is broadcasted on BBC before Christmas. I've never watched it because I know what went on behind the filming days. And I don't think I ever will."
Fans rally around widow
Fans have rushed to support her as she opened up about her conflicted feelings. She continued: "Grief triggers can catch us off guard, even years later. They can bring tears, tightness in the chest, anger, longing or a sudden feeling of emptiness.
"It doesn't mean you are going backwards. It doesn't mean you haven't healed. Sometimes, a trigger is simply a reminder of how deeply someone was woven into the fabric of your life.
"You cannot always control what brings the pain to the surface, but you can learn to meet yourself with compassion when it does. Pause. Breathe.
"Allow the feeling to be there without judging yourself for having it. I paused. I'm breathing. I'm going through motions and memories.
"I allow. I'm grateful. In grief, we move between these two spaces: the pain of what we have lost and the restoration of how we learn to live without it. Hope this helps someone today."
Many offered kind words in response. One said: "Sending hugs and thinking of you and Dave. Grief is love with no where to go. You will always love Dave and you will always grieve. It's hard, but it is a companion that brings with it memories."
Another added: "Take care Liliana. The depth of grief you're feeling clearly demonstrates the depth of love you and Dave had for eachother."
A third also replied: "Sending you so much love Liliana. I still have triggers nine years on, but am able to manage them much better now."
The culinary journey of The Hairy Bikers first began with The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook, which was filmed in part in Romania. It was there that Myers met the woman who would become his wife; she was a hotel worker during his visit. Their love story unfolded as connections remained strong, even with distance, before a visit to the UK deepened their bond into romance.
