Gordon Ramsay, the renowned chef and star of Hell's Kitchen, has revealed that the most important lesson he has imparted to his six children has nothing to do with culinary skills. Instead, it is the value of good manners.
Family Values
Gordon and his wife Tana have been married since 1996 and have raised six children: Megan, 27; twins Holly and Jack, 26; Matilda, 24; Oscar, six; and Jesse, two. Despite their father's fame and fortune, the Ramsay children have not been handed an easy life. Gordon insists on instilling discipline and responsibility from a young age.
In an interview with Fox News, Gordon stated, "The one thing I've taught them all, brilliantly, are manners. The most important thing in life, but they cost zero."
Diverse Career Paths
While some might expect the Ramsay children to follow their father into the restaurant business, they have chosen diverse careers. Jack serves as a Royal Marine commando, Megan is a police officer, Holly works in fashion, and Matilda is pursuing a university degree. Gordon expressed pride in their choices, noting that he and Tana came from families without degrees.
Financial Discipline
Despite being worth an estimated £181 million, Gordon has made it clear that his children will not inherit his wealth. In a 2017 interview with the Telegraph, he said, "It's definitely not going to them, and that's not in a mean way, it's to not spoil them. The only thing I've agreed with Tana is that they get a 25% deposit on a flat, but not the whole flat."
Gordon is strict about money management. He previously revealed that Megan receives a weekly budget of £100, while the others get about £50, which must cover their phones and bus fares. He believes teaching children to save for their own belongings is crucial. The children also earn pocket money by doing household chores, such as setting and clearing the table.
Parental Regret and Future Commitment
Gordon admits that his demanding career sometimes kept him from spending enough time with his older children. He now pledges to make more time for Oscar and Jesse, saying, "I think I'll make more time for Oscar and Jesse. Just psychologically, I want to make more time for them because I don't want them to say, 'You missed my first day of school, you missed my play, you missed my football match.'"
Gordon Ramsay's parenting approach emphasizes manners, hard work, and financial independence, ensuring his children are prepared for life, regardless of their father's success.
