The Duchess of Sussex has reportedly been offered a 'top secret' role in an unnamed UK production, fueling speculation that she may return to acting after relocating to Britain.
News of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to the UK, six years after moving to Montecito, has prompted questions about the Duchess's next move. With their children, Archie, seven, and Lillibet, four, reportedly enrolled in a UK school, reports suggest Meghan may use her time in Britain to resume her acting career.
Return to Acting
Meghan rose to fame as Rachel Zane in the legal drama series Suits from 2011 to 2018. While she has since appeared in her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, she has not pursued acting since marrying Harry in 2018.
There have been reports of talks for her to star in a new series of Guy Ritchie's The Gentleman. However, it has also been reported that the Duchess may be keen to take on a West End stage role.
West End Interest
The Daily Mail quoted a source as saying Meghan has "desperately wanted to be in a West End" production and "will certainly be speaking to people about a role." There has been no confirmation from sources close to the Sussexes.
PR expert Mark Borkowski told HELLO! that if Meghan wanted a theatre role, there would be interest. "I know at least three or four West End theatre producers who would have her in a production tomorrow," he said. "If Amanda Knox could be the biggest talking point of [the Edinburgh Festival Fringe], why wouldn't Meghan? Whether she wants to do that, I don't know, but a very sharp producer would definitely see a vehicle for her."
Westendtheatre.com published a blog article on Friday 21 August featuring its own "dream-casting" for Meghan in roles including a musical adaptation of 13 Going On 30, The Devil Wears Prada, Agatha Christie's Witness for The Prosecution, and 2:22 A Ghost Story.
Upcoming Projects
Meghan will also appear in a cameo role in Close Personal Friends, a forthcoming production for Amazon MGM Studios, alongside Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Henry Golding and Jack Quaid. No release date has been announced.
News.com.au reporter Bronte Coy reported that Meghan was offered a "top secret" role in an upcoming UK production that has not been named. She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that Meghan is "very excited" about the project, which has played a "significant" role in the family's return.
"This is such a key part of the puzzle. I think when we all heard that news that Harry and Meghan were moving here, and within a matter of days, and the kids were enrolled in school, everyone was asking, what is Meghan going to be doing?" she said, adding that further details will be released "relatively soon."
The Duke and Duchess are set to move back to the UK by the end of August, with their children starting school in September.
