Gogglebox star Shaun Malone, 31, has revealed he underwent brain surgery, sharing a photo from his hospital bed. The Manchester native, who rose to fame on the Channel 4 show alongside his family in 2014, posted the update on his Instagram Story.
Shaun's Health Update and Recovery Struggles
Shaun offered a candid look at his recovery, noting that the record-breaking temperatures across the UK made his hospital stay particularly difficult. "Heatwave is a terrible time to be stuck in hospital until Friday," he wrote beside a close-up photo of his post-surgery scar. "Brain surgery is deffo not the highlight of my year [sic]."
Previous Health Battles
Shaun has been open about his health struggles since being diagnosed with a brain condition in 2010, after initially contracting sinusitis. He previously shared on the Coaching From The Sofa podcast that doctors gave him less than 10% chance of survival. "In 2010 I got sinusitis and in some way, the infection found its way back to my brain. My brain started swelling and my skull started crushing it," he recalled. He collapsed at home and entered a coma for several weeks. Upon waking, he had brain damage affecting his memory and left side, essentially suffering a stroke that left him unable to move his left arm, leg, and face.
Gogglebox Fame
Shaun joined Gogglebox in its fourth season over a decade ago, delighting viewers with his TV quips alongside his dad Tom, mum Julie, and siblings Tom Jr and Vanessa. His family hails from Manchester, and they quickly became fan favorites.
