Good Morning Britain viewers took to social media in droves to declare they were "switching off" the Thursday August 8 episode due to the choice of presenters. The show was hosted by Adil Ray, 52, and Kate Garraway, 59, and the combination was not a hit with the audience at home.
Viewers vent on X
Taking to X, one fumed: "GMB really is woke rubbish. And the presenters and people they have on the panel are awful. I usually watch BBC One now!" Another added: "Adil Ray fgs scraping the bottom of the barrel again he should be nowhere near a television studio, where's the remote, this channel has gone down the toilet that's for sure."
A third chimed in: "Gobs***e Garraway & that abysmal Adil rancid Ray FFS what a turn off." A fourth raged: "Oh NO bloody Adil Ray again will NOT watch GMB while this vile piece of s*** is on."
A fifth seethed: "When I saw Adil 'Fake Laugh' Ray presenting, I legged it around 6.01am." Meanwhile, a sixth shared: "Adil and Kwasi [Kwarteng] on today so turned off that's saved a bit on our electric today - keep this up and GMB shall save us more on our electric than Labour."
Presenter schedule and context
The male presenter on the long-running breakfast programme on a Thursday is usually Richard Madeley, while Adil usually takes the helm of the Friday edition. However, he is also a guest presenter and covers holidays and occasionally steps into Thursday slots to cover when other presenters are unavailable.
Meanwhile, Kate usually hosts the Friday edition alongside Adil, but does occasionally step in to cover Thursdays as well as presenting the news on the show on other days during the week.
Kate's recent backlash
This latest backlash comes after Kate was criticised online about her new relationship with journalist Liam Halligan three years after her husband, Derek Draper, died due to complications with COVID-19. The star received much of the backlash after she posted a photo of them at a mutual friend's birthday party.
"She hasn’t tried to hide her relationship with Liam, and though it’s still early days, everyone close to her thinks she is due a happy ending. She’s so upset that some people can’t let her enjoy something good and positive in her life," a source told The Mirror.
